Nigel Brown will take us on a walk to this lesser known corner of Anglesey, to see coastal birds, spring flowers and dramatic geology.
We shall explore the coastal grassland and heathland of Wylfa Head, a notable SSSI for such maritime highlights as spring squill and choughs. The Precambrian geology is dramatically varied. Wheatears and other summer migrants frequent the headland and gannets will be fishing near their newly established colony at Middle Mouse.
Meet at 10.30 in the car park at SH356.938 situated at the end of the lane signposted Wylfa Power Station which leads north from the A5025 at Penlon between Tregele and Cemaes. Bear right before the entrance to the Nuclear Power Station and continue for nearly a kilometre down the narrower lane to the car park.
Please bring a packed lunch and suitable clothing for a coastal walk. Walking boots recommended, terrain moderate. Binoculars are also recommended. Please note that there are no toilet facilities at this site. Finish mid-afternoon.
This is a donation event (£5 recommended). We will also take payment by card (preferred) or cash on the day.
