Len Beer Memorial Lecture

  • Main Arts Lecture Theater, Bangor University College Road Bangor, LL57 2DG (map)

We are lucky to welcome another fantastic speaker to this years Memorial Lecture. Garden writer and historian Advolly Richmond will fascinate us on her chosen subject "The Social History of Gardens".

Advolly Richmond is an independent researcher in garden, landscape, plant and social history and is based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. She has an MA in Garden History from the University of Bristol and is qualified to RHS Level 3 in Practical Horticulture.

She advocates that garden history is for everyone, it helps us to understand the value of historic designed landscapes, parks, cemeteries and many other green spaces, because only when you understand the value of something can you protect it for future generations.

Advolly lectures on a variety of garden history subjects from the 17th through to the 20th century.   She is currently researching the life and legacy of the Rev. Thomas Birch Freeman (1809-1890), an Anglo-African Victorian missionary, botanist and plant collector.

She is a trustee of the Welsh Historic Gardens Trust and the Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens Trust.

Please save the date in your diary & calendars! In previous years we have asked for people to book due to covid restrictions but this year there is no requirement to do this. We are looking forward to seeing the theatre full again.

Further information on Advolly Richmond is availble on her website www.advolly.co.uk and you will find her on some gardening podcasts.

Donation Event (£5 per person recommended).
